Tailem Bend

& surrounds

In the centre of the Murray Rivcr Lakes & Coorong region, Tailem Bend is alongside the majestic Murray River. Tailem Bend is also a great starting point for 4WD adventures into Mount Rescue, Gold Escort Route or Ngarkat Conservation Parks, Boothby & Tolmer Rocks.

Visit Fred's Landing to launch a boat and enjoy a spot of fishing on the river, or a picnic at Dickson reserve with its newly established pontoon. Tailem info Station (VIO in main street) details the town's strong historical links with transport and the importance the railway played in opening up the surrounding towns.

Old Tailem Town is a step back in time into an original mallee township comprising 70 authentic historic buildings from the area. For delicious locally sourced and processed olive oils visit The Big Olive - they provide oil tasting and tours of the factory upon request.

The Council Office in the main street is also home to the 'Coorong Art Gallery' with rotating exhibitions and artwork for sale. For a lovely pub meal we strongly recommend the Riverside Hotel, with magnificent views over the River Murray.

If you're heading down to Meningie, grab some famous Coorong Mullet from a friendly fisherman's stall along the Princes Highway. If you're feeling adventurous, try and catch some yourself! The region is prized for its Angus Beef.
